Once a thriving community on the eastern slopes of the Sierra Nevada during the boom of the 1850s, Bodie was systematically and rather quickly deserted once both the ore in the mines and the money to run the mines began to dry up.
Now preserved in a state of "perpetual decay" as a California State Park, Bodie is simply a photographer's playground packed with all kinds of different colors, textures and locations.
Because the population declined fairly rapidly, many of the buildings still have furnishings and other household goods intact and the stores, saloons and other businesses are also surprisingly intact.
